Bordeaux 2020 En Primeur | Domaine de Chevalier

"Absolutely brilliant"

95-97 Points, Antonio Galloni

"Easily among the best in Pessac" 95 Points, Jane Anson
"Surprises and delights" 95-97+ Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Things are heating up down in Bordeaux, and today we are pleased to announce the release of two outstanding wines from Domaine de Chevalier. Antonio Galloni has recently published his report on the 2020 vintage in Bordeaux. After sampling a dizzying number of samples, the wine critic can confidently name his top performing appellation of the year. And believe it or not, it is indeed Pessac-Léognan which impressed his fine palate.

"Pessac-Léognan is the most successful appellation as a whole, most likely because the timing and amount of summer rains worked very well with where vineyards were in their ripening cycles. Yes, the top names are magnificent, but there’s more to it than that." AG, Vinous.com

In their usual modest fashion, the owners of Domaine de Chevalier have clearly over-delivered this year, offering up two majestic bottling, capturing the essence of 2020 Pessac-Léognan as whole, in both red and white tinted garments. The Rouge is simply dazzling, demanding in unison from both Antonio Galloni and Lisa Perrotti-Brown a stellar 95-97 Points score. "Rich, heady and super-concentrated" , Domaine de Chevalier Rouge is a fabulous achievement for Olivier Bernard and his team, matched only by their remarkable white, Domaine de Chevalier Blanc. The latter has received the same score as the one awarded to La Mission Haut Brion Blanc (94-96 AG, WA). "The Blanc is one of the world's great wines, hands down" comments Galloni. This is clearly one of the steal of the campaign for lovers of White Bordeaux.

This newly released duo deserves a very special place in your cellar - 2020 Bordeaux doesn't get better than this. We urge you not to overlook this release, as the quality here is exquisite. And, to the team at Domaine de Chevalier, we can only add - Bravo!

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

"The 2020 Domaine de Chevalier is going to need a number of years to unwind. Rich, heady and super-concentrated, the 2020 is so impressive, right out of the gate. Crushed rocks, rose petal, cedar, pomegranate and mint all build as the 2020 shows off its vibrant, layered personality. Domaine de Chevalier remains one of the most under the radar wines in all of Bordeaux. The 2020 is an absolutely brilliant effort from Olivier Bernard and his team. Tasted two times. Drink 2035-2055"

95-97+ Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
"Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Domaine de Chevalier comes skipping out of the glass with energetic scents of ripe red and black currants, fresh blackberries and boysenberries, plus nuances of wild sage, cloves and cedar with a waft of lavender. The medium to full-bodied palate surprises and delights with an unexpected richness and depth that remains locked away on the nose, revealing layers of fragrant earth and floral notions framed by fantastic freshness and firm, finely grained tannins, finishing with the most gorgeous, long-lingering perfume. Drink 2026-2053"

The 2020 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is fabulous. Bright and airy in the glass, the 2020 bristles with energy. Lemon confit, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper all pulse with tons of vibrancy. This finely-cut, chiseled white is going to need a number of years to be at its best, but it is so impressive and so full of potential. Bright saline notes punctuate the dazzling finish. Time in the glass brings out the wine's texture and layers. The Blanc is one of the world's great wines, hands down. Drink 2030-2050

94-96 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc bursts with notions of ripe yellow apples, juicy pears and lime blossoms, plus hints of blanched almonds, yuzu zest and wet pebbles. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers impactful apple and citrus flavors with a racy backbone and seductive oiliness to the texture, finishing long and minerally. Drink 2025-2038"
