Bordeaux 2020 En Primeur | Château Quinault L'Enclos

A firm favourite at Wine Source, Chateau Quinault L'Enclos needs very little introduction, being amongst the most loved wines within our loyal client base. Under the same ownership of Cheval Blanc, Quinault L'Enclos lies on the warm, sunny edge of St. Emilion, where old Merlot vines were planted by the previous owners between 1934 and 1956.

The combination between old vines, sun-kissed location and complex soil composition, made Quinault L'Enclos an ideal candidate for Chateau Cheval Blanc to experiment within the Saint Emilion appellation. This led to their decision to acquire the estate back in 2008. Shortly after, the team led by Pierre Lurton started to convert all vineyards into organic farming, culminating in full certification awarded in 2012.

The wines at Quinault L'Enclos started to ascend the quality ladder, delivering some impressive results in warm vintages like the outstanding 2015 and 2018. While we are awaiting for further critics to taste the wine directly in Bordeaux, our local team has visited the property and reports on a beautifully nuanced, intense and spicy Saint Emilion which should pretty much drink well out of the gate. Jane Anson highlights the "solar nature" of the wine, showcasing lots of "eucalyptus, black pepper and rosemary spice".

We are already planning a BBQ for when this lands. We suggest you to be prepared and fill your boots with this utterly quaffable wine, produced by the award-winning team at Chateau Cheval Blanc. Sadly, production is 50% down, so we expect this to sell out fast.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

92 Points, Jane Anson, Decanter
"Managing tannins is one of the lines that needed walking in 2020, and the warmer soils of Quinault compared to Cheval needed particular care. You find some traces of the solar nature of the summer on the nose, with eucalyptus, black pepper and rosemary spice, but there is freshness on the palate, well balanced and with density to the blackberry and black cherry fruits, finishing up with again the eucalyptus that is found in the aromatics, and a generous kick of spice. Drinking Window 2024 - 2036"

16+/20 Points, James Lawther MW, JancisRobinson.com
"Supple and round with plenty of charm. Vineyard-fresh fruit on the nose then medium-bodied weight and structure with just enough depth to give it a serious edge."

Wine Source tasting at the Chateau
"A strikingly beautiful purple colour introduces the nose of black fruits, with hints of tobacco and pepper. The palate is ripely fruited, of medium body, balanced by finely textured tannins that stand out in this vintage."
