Bordeaux 2020 En Primeur | Château Pichon-Baron

"This is hands down one of the most impressive wines of 2020. Superb." Antonio Galloni

Amongst the most anticipated release of the 2020 Primeurs, Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron is out now with its new millésime.

Rich, succulent and boundless, this new vintage of Pichon manages to express the personality of 2020 in its purest form. “Utterly breathtaking” comments Galloni, who places Pichon Baron among “the most impressive wines of 2020” (96-98 Pts). In its usual fashion, Pichon behaves wildly from barrel, showing a wide array of Asian spices, balsamic wood, preserved plums and tobacco. The wine’s structure is impenetrable, “built like a brick house” Lisa Perrotti-Brown reports, paving the way for at least three decades of continuous improvement in bottle. Once this beauty will finally resolve its youthful temperament, be ready to experience one of the most elegant, seamless and utterly delicious vintage of Pichon you have ever tasted.

Since 2009, Chateau Pichon Baron has been one of the most consistently highly-rated wine of the Medoc, a reputation achieved via a painstaking grape selection favouring quality over quantity. In 2020, yields were just 33 Hl/Ha, and production of the Grand Vin is only 48% of the harvest. We strongly advise to apply for an allocation at your earliest convenience as this promises to sell out fast.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

96-98 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
The 2020 Pichon Baron is utterly breathtaking, and also one of the very best young vintages I have tasted here. An exotic mélange of red cherry, mint, rose petal and blood orange comes alive in the glass. More than anything, though, the Pichon-Baron possesses remarkable energy and vibrancy that builds to an intense, beautifully focused finish. This is hands down one of the most impressive wines of 2020. Superb. Drink 2035-2055

95-97+ Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
The 2020 Pichon-Longueville Baron is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot aging for an estimated 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% new. The production of the grand vin represents 48% of the harvest this year. Opaque purple-black in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notions of blackberry pie, preserved plums and crème de cassis, plus suggestions of Chinese five spice, chocolate mint, graphite and cedar chest with a touch of violets. The medium-bodied palate is built like a brick house, featuring firm, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness to support the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing long and spicy. Drink 2027-2052

97-99 Points, Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
Richly colored with purple around the edges the wine struts its creme de cassis, tobacco, cigar box, earthy, forest floor and peppery spice nose with ease. On the palate the wine is round, polished, sweet, fresh, ripe, long and elegant. This is a refined, classic, potentially forward vintage of Pichon Baron that should start showing quite well with just a decade of aging. The wine was made from blending 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot, 13.6% ABV. Yields were only 33 hectoliters per hectare.
