Bordeaux 2020 En Primeur | Château Grand Mayne

"This delivers, or perhaps overdelivers considering the price." 93-95 Points, Neal Martin

"Chock-full of rich black fruits, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and beautifully perfumed." 93-95+ Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

Building on the outstanding achievements of 2019, Chateau Grand Mayne comes to market with another compelling vinous creation.
Beloved by wine critic Neal Martin, this historic property in Saint Emilion is quickly becoming one to watch. A recent retrospective published on Vinous highlights the vicissitudes of this historic 'grand manor', now firmly in the hands of the Nony family, who took over in 1934. Previously a negociant, the Nonys decided to revamp this great Chateau, knowing the prized vineyards boasted a magical terroir which unfortunately no one had properly exploited in the past.

After the premature passing of his father, young Jean-Antoine Nony took over the reins of Chateau Grand Mayne and begun to impress wine lovers with a series of vintages showcasing a level of refinement and class as never seen before. In talks with Neal Martin, Jean-Antoine reports on the outstanding results his Cabernet Franc delivered in the warm 2020 vintage. Paired with one of the most supple Merlot harvested at Grand Mayne, the blend in 2020 is a captivating example of the highest peaks Saint Emilion can reach.

Coming to market at £167 per 6 bottles, Chateau Grand Mayne is literally a steal. Neal Martin finds a "focused and delineate" wine, offering up "chiseled scents of black berry, bilbery, crushed rock and incense". The critic awards one of the highest score to date, 93-95 Points, and he is joined by Lisa Perrotti-Brown who provides a similar quality assessment, 93-95+.
At this price, Grand Mayne clearly overdelivers, and the one of you with a keen eye, will surely understand this price level won't last long.

93-95 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous
"The 2020 Grand Mayne is focused and delineated on a nose that offers plenty of finely chiseled scents of black cherry, bilberry, crushed rock and incense, opulent but beautifully controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit on the entry, and laced with graphite, touches of tobacco and minerals. From beginning to end, this 2020 displays wonderful tension, and there is a sense of refinement on the finish that I think has only manifested in vintages of Grand Mayne over the last 5–6 years. This delivers, or perhaps overdelivers considering the price. Drinking Window 2028 - 2050"

93-95+ Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
"Opaque purple-black in color, the 2020 Grand Mayne slowly unfurls in the glass to reveal gorgeous notions of ripe black plums, dark chocolate-covered cherries and blackberry pie, plus hints of licorice, cracked black pepper and unsmoked cigars with a touch of tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of rich black fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and beautifully perfumed. Drink 2025-2049"
